It’s kind of a no-brainer that we would bestow the honor of a Woman Crush Wednesday on a woman who has created, written, produced, and starred in a show that has shifted the entire comedy genre, right? And so for that, we say congrats (and thank you!) to Julie Klausner.

This week, her show Difficult People dropped its first three episodes of season 3 on Hulu, and they’re just about as binge-able as it gets, and that’s all Julie’s doing.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Julie Klausner

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Julie has been hustling in the entertainment industry for years. When we visited the set of her Hulu original show, she told us how she went from feeling like an outsider, to now, “absolutely” feeling seen and heard, and “by the right people. Not everybody, but fuck them,” she added, laughing it off. And it is indeed her turn to laugh now.

A former student of the Upright Citizens Brigade, Julie’s clocked some major hours in the comedy world as both a performer and writer. Now, she’s leading the charge on Difficult People, which is not only hilarious, but important. She’s put a New York City world on screen that includes everyone, making them horrible and horribly funny in the process. The diverse cast doesn’t just include super talented actors, but the fact that they span every religion, skin color, sexual identity, and more, is Julie pushing open the door and letting a wide, interesting group of people have their voices and perspectives heard.

Julie’s not just a super funny pop culture junkie, though she is those things, too (and we always love a Real Housewives superfan), but she’s put in the work. Like her character Julie, she’s been a TV recapper, and she’s worked her butt off. Now she’s shining a light on talents that may have been overlooked by other shows, and in the process, making the entertainment industry a more inclusive place. Oh, and totally making fun of celebrities along the way.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Julie’s popped up on shows such as Delocated, and Mulaney, as well as adding her voice to Ugly Americans and Bob’s Burgers. She’s been a writer on The Big Gay Sketch Show and Best Week Ever, and handled both writer and producer duties on The Jack and Triumph Show, as well as her bestie Billy Eichner’s popular game show Billy On The Street.

Julie’s also the author of the very entertaining I Don’t Care About Your Band and the YA novel Art Girls Are Easy, and she hosts the podcast How Was Your Week. Wait, what hasn’t this woman accomplished?

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: The first 3 episodes of Difficult People season 3 are available on Hulu now and they’re ready for your eyeballs. This season is funnier, more ridiculous, and sharper than ever, proving that Julie has only grown as a performer and producer. Perhaps most importantly though, she’s has acquired that necessary “give no effs” attitude towards those that don’t matter, and “gives many effs” to those that do.
