HAS BIG LITTLE LIES BEEN RENEWED FOR SEASON 2?
Not yet. Based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies was initially conceived as a miniseries for HBO. But the good news is that there’s palpable interest in a potential second season from the author, cast, and HBO.
Back in April, Moriarty said that she is definitely open to a second installment of the limited series.
“I have started to think about ways this could continue,” the author told Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald. “The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn’t write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we’ll see what happens.”
IS HBO DEVELOPING A SEASON 2?
A second season of Big Little Lies is in the early stages of development. At the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, HBO Programming President Casey Bloys confirmed that he asked Moriarty to “take a crack at” coming with with a story for a potential Season 2.

What would a second season of Big Little Lies be without Madeline Mackenzie? During a recent interview, Witherspoon admitted that she was optimistic about the show’s chances of returning for Season 2.
“We’re optimistic that there might be more,” Witherspoon told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think this is one of those shows that is unique in that it was very entertaining, but it was also really moving and talking about issues that are very on the forefront of everyone’s mind. So, it’s really demand from the audience that would create a second season.”
WILL THERE BE A BIG LITTLE LIES SEASON 2?
When you factor in the demand from the audience and the willingness from the all-star cast, it seems like a second season of Big Little Lies is a no-brainer. It may take a little while, but we’d bet on a Season 2 for the hit HBO drama.
