Who says there are no more original TV ideas? Fitting in with today’s reboot-obsessed pop culture landscape, NBC has announced that it will be rebooting The Munsters, but there’s a twist! What if the Munster family lived in Brooklyn?

If you think a sitcom featuring classic horror movie monsters delivering one liners about kombucha is one too many thematic flavors, clearly you’re not a television executive. The reboot will be executive produced by Seth Meyers and Odd Mom Out’s Jill Kagman, which brings some sanity to this project. As his involvement with Last Night with Seth Meyers, Saturday Night Live, and Documentary Now! has proven, Meyers is a master when it comes to extravagantly silly comedies, and Kagman’s Bravo show contains similar wacky notes. If anyone can make this work, it’s probably this duo.

The original version of The Munsters, which ran from 1964 to 1966, was always a delightful mashup of themes. It paid homage to classic B-grade monster movies all while mocking family-friendly tropes from the Leave It to Beaver era. The series was released around the same time as the thematically similar The Addams Family, but it was eventually cancelled due to its low ratings. The series holds a special place in many viewers’ hearts, and it even had a reboot in the ’80s, titled The Munsters Today.

The Munsters always had a lot going on. Adding another layer of topical ribbing will either be brilliant or an artisanal mess clothed in tight jeans, ironic glasses, and far too much flannel. Either way, I’m here for it.
