Every superhero needs a great villain. And while Marvel’s been a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to that on the big screen (although I will always go to the mat for Mickey Rourke and his “boird”), the Netflix shows have mostly delivered when it comes to creating intimidating threats. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), Kilgrave (David Tennant), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard)–all characters that were terrifying in their own unique way. Now there’s a new baddie on the block: Alexandra.
Sigourney Weaver is a bona fide badass and Sci-Fi Queen thanks to roles in the Alien and Ghostbusters franchises (as well as the brilliant Galaxy Quest). When Weaver appears onscreen, she brings almost 40 years’ worth of commanding performances with her–and it looks like all that’s gonna pay off in Marvel’s The Defenders.
The series, which drops all 8 episodes tomorrow, pits New York City’s four street-level heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) against Alexandra and her devilish machinations. Who is she? What does she want? The final trailer for the series, which Netflix just unleashed, gives us a bit more insight into what Alexandra’s willing to do, and what she’s willing to sacrifice (namely, all of New York City) to get things done.
