Marvel’s The Defenders is a damn rollercoaster ride, one that is going to play with your emotions and leave you spinning especially if you are as dangerously emotionally involved in the lives of these four goofballs as I am. When you get to the final scene of the final episode, you’re probably gonna be shook (I’m not spoiling what it is, no way, no how!). You also might be inclined to take a break and just, like, decompress.

Don’t.

It ain’t over yet.

It’s going to seem like it’s all over, because unlike a movie theater where you know to just stay planted in your seat, Netflix immediately shoves a whole bunch of other streaming options in your face! Seriously, is this a screen that shouts “Hey, keep watching”?

Netflix

Whether you’re watching on your laptop or on an Apple TV or another device, Netflix is gonna shove the Defenders credits into a corner and suggest other things to watch (like the Oscar nominated film Lion, for some reason). You’re gonna want to click back over onto the Defenders credits and let them play out, because there’s something afterwards you’re gonna wanna see!

***SPOILER ALERT FOR WHAT YOU WILL SEE***

Seriously, you cool with being spoiled? Or have you already seen episode eight? I hope so, because here goes:

After the credits roll on the final episode of Marvel’s The Defenders, you’re treated to (or really you experience) the first footage from the upcoming Netflix/Marvel series The Punisher. The teaser trailer shows Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) pounding away at cement with a sledgehammer, while narration plays. Castle’s narration is a monologue about the demons of his past, and the devil he sold his soul to–and the devil that’s about to come to collect. The footage, when not featuring Bernthal pounding away at the ground, is of torture scenes, soldiers/mercenaries wrecking his home and threatening his family, and just general bloody mayhem. We don’t see any of the supporting characters (no sign of Daredevil alum Deborah Ann Woll, who will also appear in Punisher). The clip ends with Frank Castle walking away from his work, revealing that he’s carved the Punisher skull logo into the ground.

All that being said, we still don’t know when The Punisher is gonna hit Netflix. No release date has been set, and this is the first footage we’ve seen from the show. On average, these Marvel/Netflix seasons arrive around 54 days after the first footage is released, so going by that, we might see Punisher in mid-October or, maybe more likely considering Netflix has a packed October schedule, November.

All eight episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders are currently streaming on Netflix.
