When is ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Coming Out?

Ah, look how far we’ve come since April 2015! That’s when Daredevil dropped its first season on Netflix, unleashing 13 brutal, hourlong installments of superhero noir goodness. And much like Iron Man on the big screen in 2008, Daredevil kicked off a sprawling, interconnected mythology on the small screen. Daredevil led to Jessica JonesLuke Cage, and Iron Fist–and ultimately The Defenders.
Unlike the other Netflix/Marvel shows, we’ve already gotten two seasons of Daredevil. But unlike the other Netflix heroes, Daredevil has over 50 years of comics to his name. This guy’s got an impressive canon, y’all. Daredevil’s led 26 hours of television and there are still plenty of stories to tell. It’s a good thing we’re getting a third season of his solo show–but when is it coming out?

Where’d we leave Matt Murdock?

Daredevil Season Two hit Netflix in March 2016, and it didn’t end on a high note. Matt (Charlie Cox) hit a rough patch with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), killing their burgeoning romance. He also had to bury his ex Elektra (Elodie Yung), who died in battle with the Hand. And his best friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) got fed up with Matt’s constant lying and quit their firm. After all this, what did Matt do? He told Karen Page about his secret identity.
And then Elektra came back from the dead as an amnesiac killing machine for the Hand. Oh, things never go well for Matt! SPOILER ALERT for The Defenders, because big things happened to Matt during those eight episodes. Karen and Matt are on speaking terms, but they aren’t together; Foggy did help out Daredevil, though, bringing these two a step closer to reconciling.
And then Matt Murdock went and got a skyscraper dropped on him during a solo suicide mission against Elektra. Matt! You make horrible decisions! That is why I love you!
Defenders ended with Matt, covered in bruises and bandages, waking up in the care of nuns somewhere TBD. All we know is that he’s in the care of someone named Maggie–oh, and in the comics, Daredevil’s mom is a nun named Maggie. HUH.

What’s up with Season Three?

Whereas the next seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are currently filming, we’re still a few months out from cameras rolling on Daredevil Season Three. Right now, rumors are saying that DDS3 will begin production in October.

And…that’s about it. We’ve yet to have any casting confirmations about Season Three, and we definitely don’t know who will menace Hell’s Kitchen this time around. There are a few options, though, most notably the potential return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. When we last saw him in Season Two, he spending his time behind bars trying to unravel the mystery of Daredevil’s secret identity. There’s also one major Daredevil villain that the shows have avoided so far: Bullseye. If Daredevil Season Three wants to top The Defenders, pitting DD against the Kingpin and Bullseye might just do the trick.
There’s also the matter of getting Daredevil out of that convent and back into Hell’s Kitchen. And there’s the matter of Sister Maggie. There’s a foreboding confluence happening right now, as–in the comics–Maggie debuted in the same storyarc that saw the Kingpin figure out Matt Murdock’s secret identity and wreck his life. These two dominos have been put in place. Will Season Three knock them down?

Okay, so… when is Season Three coming out?

Sometime in 2018, most likely. Since this season isn’t filming yet, we don’t really know when it will come out; typically, these Defenders seasons hit Netflix around 309 days after production begins. If that’s the case, and Season Three has an October 2017 production start, then maybe we’ll see more Daredevil around August 10, 2018. Maybe.

Decider will be sure to update this article as soon as we have an official release date for Daredevil Season Three.

UPDATE: Netflix has announced that Daredevil Season 3 will arrive on October 19, 2018.
