As the latest edition of The Tick prepares to take the battle of good vs. evil to Prime Video, we decided to revisit the first live-action iteration of the superhero series. Originally airing on Fox, the 2001 version of The Tick starred baritone-voiced Patrick Warburton as the eponymous superhero arachnid. Funny, well-written, and exuding a unique superhero show meets hangout comedy vibe, live-action Tick 1.0 is definitely worthy of a binge-watch.

Thankfully, the entire series is now available to stream on Crackle.

Along with David Burke, Liz Vassey, and Nestor Carbonell, Warburton and his cadre of superheroes formed the yin to villainy’s malevolent yang… for nine episodes. That’s right nine episodes. Despite a strong reception from critics and audiences alike, the series couldn’t topple the unbeatable combination of Survivor: Africa and NBC’s vaunted Must-See comedy lineup and was abruptly cancelled, which was a classic Fox move back in the early aughts.

The Tick joined other promising shows like Kitchen Confidential (streaming on Hulu), Wonderfalls (which you can and should watch on YouTube), and Undeclared in the ignoble one-season wonders club.

As Decider’s Brett White points out, Fox’s version of The Tick was a “single-camera superhero comedy in an almost superhero-less era dominated by multi-cap sitcoms.” The goofy, irreverent series was way ahead of its time back in 2001, but now, thanks to Crackle, you can enjoy all nine episodes of this cancelled entirely too soon gem.

Stream all nine episodes of Fox’s The Tick on Crackle.
