What you might already know about the fourth season of Broad City: they made the decision to bleep Trump’s name any time it comes up in an episode. What you need to know about the fourth season of Broad City: just that.

The fourth season is without a doubt the most fearless so far, which says a lot about the boundary-pushing Comedy Central series. Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer know what they’re doing. They had that Hillary Clinton moment last season. They’ve branched out into art podcasts and lead roles in movies. In a sense, it feels like these ladies have nothing to lose and they’re going (figurative and/or strap-on) balls to the wall for season four. They’ve gone from “It Lists” to Icons and they know it.

Which is why they can get political the way they want to. They’re millennials that understand they can’t escape saying the T-word, but that doesn’t mean they ever want to hear it. Bleeping it is bold, ballsy, and makes a statement — something these girls are routinely used to doing. (And I mean, really, who needs to hear that name any more than they already do?) No other show has quite captured the brutal “bhahaha”-ness to being broke in New York City as a young adult. And yet in one of the most depressing years in our country’s history, they persist.

The unique outfits, the weed smoking, the bodily functions, the sex talk: it’s all there and it’s as clever as ever. Broad City fans will be pleased with what they’re getting, and newbies that happen to stumble into the fourth season (where ya been?) will immediately wonder, WTF is this and why am I now obsessed with it? Welcome to Broad City, my friend.

It would be disingenuous of the duo to ignore the current political climate, but it’s nothing short of brilliant how they do address these troubling times. Look out for the October 25th episode “Witches” which will undoubtedly go down as one of the show’s most epic episodes to date. While Clinton didn’t win the election, Broad City has won the confidence she carried (and inspired in many). Very few shows have managed to face the 2016 election head-on while still remaining hilarious, but leave it to BC to figure it out. With the new season, they’ve seamlessly slid from silly comedy to saying something, to being a beacon of hope for those that yes, are still coping, but also, looking for a laugh. And in that regard, they very much deliver.  They’re standing up for their points of view. They’re making fun of themselves and looking silly when, where, and how they want to. They aren’t afraid to ruffle a few feathers, not that they ever were, but now so more than ever. And not that the season gets all political — far from it — but when they do, these gals still know how to keep raising the bar for the ridiculous. That’s a true accomplishment right there.

Broad City knows to keep the focus on Abbi and Ilana’s beautiful friendship, flashing back in the first episode to the moment they met with a Sliding Doors scenario. Plus, celebs such as Wanda Sykes, RuPaul, Steve Buscemi, and Shania Twain have all signed up to pop by their wacky world. This season will continue to be that magical blend of weird and honest only these two can concoct, as they drop truthbombs and LOLs in every episode. That these two grown women can get more outrageous with every episode is a reminder of what truly makes America so beautiful.
