I’m guessing that you, just like me, have been unable to stop talking about the Insecure season 2 finale all week. That kitchen scene! But let’s refocus the convo just a tad, because there was a very clear MVP of the season this year, and we need to give her a big, big shoutout.
Natasha Rothwell plays the chatty and charming Kelli on Insecure, not to mention serving double duty in the writers’ room, and with her upped role this season as Issa’s pal, she damn near stole the show. And yes, her Ivy Park is on point. Plus, if you’ll remember correctly, her character also got some sweet under-the-table action this season, and if that can’t earn you MVP status, what can?
Due to some lady troubles in the season finale, Kelli may not have completed the race, the one that all her friends totally knew she was training for, but she completed the season as the most exciting character on the show. Every time she pops on screen, you know she will be bringing some truth to the scene, as well as some of the funniest lines in each episode. And after a few of those tense moments this season, that comic relief was necessary.
Plus, as Issa revealed in the Wine Down, the majority of Kelli’s lines are improvised! Great for viewers, less great for everyone on set that has to recover from all the giggles Rothwell is causing. But as long as she’s working on both sides of the camera, there will be even more to come for season 3. Trophy emoji!
