Netflix premieres their new true crime satire, American Vandal, today, and it promises to appeal to the inner middle schooler in all of us. The eight-episode season follows the story of Dylan Maxwell, a notorious prankster who is accused of drawing dicks on every car in his high school parking lot. Dylan maintains his innocence, and a young documentary filmmaker quickly takes up his case in an attempt to find out #WhoDrewTheDicks (yes, this is Netflix’s marketing strategy, and it’s amazing).

New Netflix star Jimmy Tatro plays accused dick drawer Dylan, and if Tatro’s name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’re one of the 32 million (!!) people who’ve seen this video.

Tatro and his friends began making videos in high school, and the aspiring comedian continued to do so while in college at the University of Arizona. His early videos riffed on typical college concerns–rushing a fraternity, talking to girls in the library, awkward social encounters–and it wasn’t long before he quickly started gaining followers who appreciated his unique brand of satire.

After dropping out of college, Tatro began appearing in small movies roles, all the while continuing to update his immensely popular YouTube channel, LifeAccordingtoJimmy. In 2013, he appeared alongside comedy greats like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and David Spade in the family comedy Grown Ups 2. The next year, he had a much larger role in 22 Jump Street as Rooster, a football playing fraternity dude with very memorable hair.

True to his brand, Jimmy Tatro also appeared in Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland as Dick Dawg, Thad Castle’s cousin and bodyguard.

These smaller roles have been preparing Tatro for the role of a lifetime in American Vandal. He’s used to playing the prankster, the dude who DGAFs, and the butt of the joke, but he’s never done so on a stage as large as Netflix. Will he be able to handle the pressure of a major streaming service? All signs point to yes. If he can handle 2.7 million YouTube subscribers, Netflix should be a cake walk.
