Fall is officially here, and that means the summer movie season is over. However, the arrival of fall means those summer flicks are popping up in digital storefronts everywhere. Considering how lackluster the box office was this year, you may have opted to hit the beach instead of taking in a summer flick–but now you can catch up at a fraction of the price! Whether you use Amazon VideoiTunesVudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover.

Clear your weekend schedules because two of the biggest critical hits of the year, Wonder Woman and The Big Sick, are now available to rent digitally. Wonder Woman was the only legit runaway blockbuster of the summer movie season, blowing past all expectations to become the biggest movie of the season and the second biggest movie of the year. If you didn’t buy it a few weeks ago, you gotta rent it now. The romantic dramedy The Big Sick was also a major hit, albeit on a much smaller scale. The indie pulled in a solid $42M at the box office and got a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now you can see what all the fuss was about for a few bucks!

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of arty horror films, swashbuckling adventures, and charming comedies now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Okay, so, the fifth Pirates movie didn’t perform as well as expected in theaters. The film pulled in $172M domestically, but that’s far below its budget and the earnings of the previous adventures of Jack Sparrow. But did it deserve to be overlooked? After all, aren’t all pirate adventures at least a little bit of fun, yo ho ho? Now you can check out the film for yourself, from the comfort of your own couch! And if you don’t feel up for dropping full price to own this tale, you can wait a few weeks and rent it.

A Ghost Story

This film from writer/director David Lowery isn’t a ghost story in a traditional sense. Instead of going for jumps and scares, this ghost story–which drapes Casey Affleck in the traditional sheet with eye holes–is a rumination on time, love, and loss. Rooney Mara stars as the lover Affleck leaves behind upon his death, a woman grappling with the need to move on with her life and out of the home she made with her dead husband. The innovative film’s story is one that you have to experience for yourself, as it goes in unexpected and affecting places. This is one ghost story that may not scare you, but it will most likely haunt you.

Contact

Jodie Foster gave sci-fi fans a different kind of leading lady in Contact, a film about extraterrestrial life that doesn’t take the aggressive approach of other films like Alien or Predator. Foster stars as a SETI scientist that discovers evidence of alien life and is chosen to make first contact. The film, a predecessor to Arrival when it comes to portraying science fiction in a factual manner, was developed by revered astrophysicist Carl Sagan and his Cosmos co-writer Ann Druyan, so you know this “what if” scenario is pretty legit. You can watch Contact on Hulu or Netflix, but now you can score a rental for just under a buck on iTunes too.
