When you have a family, it’s always a struggle to find something to watch on TV that everyone can enjoy, even when it comes to cartoons. The most difficult task is finding something that can be deemed appropriate for all audiences but has just the right amount of adult humor to keep you and your co-parent entertained. Bob’s Burgers does just that – it has many levels of comedy that a child could enjoy and just the right amount of cynical charm that could make an adult (even one who doesn’t typically like cartoons) fall in love.

The main reason that Bob’s Burgers works so well for families is probably the fact that it’s centered around a quirky middle-to-lower-class family of its own. The show’s parents, Bob and Linda, co-run Bob’s struggling burger restaurant which is located downstairs from their residence. The series does a great job at peppering in Bob and Linda’s relationship hurdles, including their frustrations with each other when working together, shaping their kids and finding the time to spend together romantically.

The show’s three children – Gene, Louise and Tina – mold the perfect sibling dynamic by often teaming together on their adventures yet sometimes getting in each others’ ways. Gene, the middle child and only son of the family, is one of the most hilarious characters on television. His persistent use of fart jokes and adult-level commentary is funny for all ages. Tina, the oldest sibling, displays the perfect mix of teen angst and pubescent romantic woes to garner the interest of the teenager(s) of your family. Lastly, the bunny-ear-toting Louise, may very well be Linda’s biggest handful. She is the youngest child of the family and her rebellious edge and tendency to question things makes for an intriguing parent-child relationship.

The FOX animated comedy series returns for its eighth overall season tonight, October 1, at 7:30 PM. The show, which was created by Loren Bouchard and stars H. Jon Benjamin (Archer) as the voice of Bob, will treat fans to a 100-percent fan-drawn episode featuring drawings by 62 artists, which should be really cool.
