Evil Dead II

Powered by Reelgood

Guard the door and your soul, for October now stalks the land in search of sustenance. Ghouls, goblins, and grotesquerie have clawed their way into your day-to-day, and there’s no shaking their icy grip. So yeah, October’s a blast if you love spooky things! And there is no better way to get in touch with your inner ghoul than with the horror streaming service Shudder and all of its October additions.

This month, Shudder adds horror films both new and old, including a few exclusives. Can’t Take it Back presents a new urban legend for the social media age in a tale following two high school girls who make a joke on Facebook that goes too far. Found Footage 3D is a totally meta battle with the metaphysical, as the filmmakers behind the first-ever 3D found footage horror film find their production disturbed by an actual evil spirit. And if you’re looking for something fun, Spookers profiles a New Zealand family’s successful and sprawling haunted house, the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.

For the low price of just $4.99 a month, Shudder will grant you access to all the horror hits and blood-curdling indie gems you can handle. Ensure that your Halloween season is filled with frights by checking out all the new horror titles now available to stream on Shudder!

Evil Dead II (1987)

Sam Raimi’s sequel to the classic Evil Dead is the rare follow-up that improves on its predecessor. Bruce Campbell stars, once again, as Ash, a man determined to defeat all of the evil spirits locked within a nondescript log cabin in the woods. This film, essentially a remake of Evil Dead with a high production value and jokes-to-gore ratio, plays fast and loose with continuity and goes all-in on the franchise’s trademark comedy/horror vibe. There’s a reason why Ash has become one of the greatest horror characters of all time, and the reason can be found in Evil Dead II.

Uncle John (2015)

Beloved small-town carpenter John has never done anything to cause anyone any harm–until now. John finally had enough of town bully Dutch Miller, so he did away with the troublemaker and got rid of his body in a bonfire. And in a bit of poor timing, John’s nephew pays him a visit just as Dutch’s drunk brother starts a one-man investigation of the murder. This tense indie film defies genre labels, as it mixes elements of crime films and thrillers with, surprisingly, romantic comedies. Critics loved this film, applauding the performances and its creepy undercurrent.

The Corpse of Anna Fritz (2015)

This Spanish thriller necessitates all the trigger warnings for sexual assault in the world, as the topics it deals with are way closer to the real world than other escapist horror flicks. When the corpse of actress Anna Fritz arrives in a hospital morgue, an obsessive orderly and his two friends engage in acts of necrophilia that take an even darker turn when Anna’s corpse suddenly comes back to life. This film, which premiered at the SXSW film festival in 2015, goes to disturbingly real places.
