The “sneak peek” at Sarah Silverman’s new Funny or Die series for Hulu is more like a music video, with the star lipping to a track whose lyrics start with: “I love you, America/from sea to shining sea/from the East Coast to the West/and whatever’s in between.”
From there she waxes in song about loving all the labels, er, groups of people who make up the good ol’ US of A — men, women, gay, straight, Mexican, Irish, Afghani, North Carolinian — until she pauses, and reflects, and admits she’s part of the problem. Then there’s this interaction with Parks and Rec alum Retta and … well, just check it out above.
From inciting treason to telling poop jokes, Silverman has created her fair share of mirth and controversy. In I Love You, America, she’s looking to connect with people who might not agree with her personal opinions through honesty, humor, genuine interest in others and not taking herself too seriously.
The weekly half-hour topical show features comic Silverman discussing the current political/emotional landscape of the country (only a half-hour?). It heated up the cable and digital marketplace when it was taken out in February, landing a production offers from both ad-supported and pay services, ultimately landing a 10-episode, straight-to-series order at Hulu.
Executive produced by FoD’s Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, along with showrunner Gavin Purcell and Thruline’s Amy Zvi. Hulu will stream new episodes on Thursdays starting this week.
