Good Behavior is back! And they’re no dummies — the first scene of the episode is a sex scene, because this is a show that understands its viewers.

Things are hot and heavy for Letty (Michelle Dockery) and Javier (Juan Diego Botto) at the beginning of season 2, until their morning sex turns into a rundown of their to-do lists for the day…and an interruption from their son Jacob (Nyles Steele). Let this hookup serve as a sign of the times: the con woman and hitman have traded their hotel room romps for…normal life? Yeah, right. But hey, they’re trying.

As they tell themselves they’re going to live the way regular people do, Javier is slinking off for another job and Letty’s stuffing clothes into her purse as quickly and smoothly as ever. It’s not until Jacob’s new friend Apple (Alexa Nisenson), lol, and her mom Carin with a C (Laura Bell Bundy) stop by that they truly have to do their best pretending.

As Emile and Lindsay, as they are now known, charm their new friend over dinner, Good Behavior breaks out an elaborate, A+ joke about Gwyneth Paltrow, because why not?

Picking up on the fact that Carin (with a C) has named her daughter Apple (still, lol), “Lindsey” makes up a huge backstory about the family’s previous adventure…where Emile was Gwyneth Paltrow’s personal chef. Just dropping her name perks Carin’s ears right up, as Letty launches into a whole rant about how her husband’s recipes started showing up on Goop, lying, “She didn’t ask. She didn’t pay for them, she just stole them. Put them in her cookbook too.” Carin is visibly shocked at this Gwyneth Paltrow revelation, admitting, “I have that cookbook.” Letty responds, “Then you have stolen recipes,” before proudly taking a big gulp of wine. Watching Carin eat up the ridiculous lies is one of the funnier scenes the show has presented, and it pays off in a big way.

While the sexy sex on this show is always welcome, it comes down to the clever exchanges like these that prove just how smart, witty, and humorous the show can truly be. It comes through in the slick and suspenseful moments of thievery and action as well, but Dockery is just as exciting when she’s spinning a verbal web of lies. Which she likes to do, and often. It’s not every show that can make applying for private school a storyline you’d want to follow, and yet here we are. Oh, and don’t forget that FBI Agent Rhonda Lashever (Ann Dowd), a woman who is equal parts scary and silly, will stop at nothing to hunt down Javier. An attempt at the “simple life” will never, ever be simple for these people — and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

Season 2 will continue to keep viewers on their toes, with next week’s camping trip episode proving to be more timely than ever, and just when you think you’ve got a grip on Letty and Javier, they flip the tables on everyone. If you haven’t been on your best behavior lately and need to catch up on Good Behavior, season 1 is available on Hulu now, and you can quickly jump on board for season 2 on TNT — and you will want to. You know, just in case the sex scenes and Goop jokes weren’t proof of that yet.
