In the mood for something new and deeply disturbing this Halloween season? Look no further than Netflix’s latest David Fincher series, Mindhunter. Partially directed by Fincher and executive produced by both Fincher and Charlize Theron, the Jonathan Groff series tells the very real story of how one detective’s insistence on interviewing killers revolutionized criminal profiling. It’s a series about serial killers before the phrase “serial killers” was invented.

The creepiest part about Netflix’s Mindhunter isn’t necessarily its subject matter but how close it matches real life. Based on the 1995 book Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, the series follows two FBI agents and a no-nonsense psychologist as they interview the worst of the worst killers in history. It’s a beautifully composed watch that will make you feel deeply uncomfortable and a little nauseous — exactly what you want this Halloween season. If you’re wondering when you can expect more of this murderous marvel, we have your back.

Will there be a Mindhunter Season 2 on Netflix?

Netflix must feel pretty confident about this original series because Mindhunter was renewed months before its release. According to SpoilerTVMindhunter was renewed for a second season six months before its Season 1 release. CinemaBlend also published an article about the show’s renewal. Considering that Netflix is quickly becoming a home for incredible crime dramas and that Fincher’s other Netflix original, House of Cards, has been a runaway success for the streaming service, that’s not too surprising. At the moment, we don’t know how many seasons the creators are planning for this creepy watch.

What will Season 2 be about?

David Fincher told Billboard that “next year we’ll be looking at the Atlanta Child Murders,” an infamous case that lasted from 1979 through 1981. Here’s a description of the case, pulled from the FBI’s official site:

Between 1979 and 1981, approximately 29 African-American children, teens, and young adults—mostly boys—were kidnapped and murdered. A majority of the killings shared common details. The FBI joined the multi-agency investigation in 1980. In our files, the major case is called ATKID, short for the Atlanta Child Murders. The investigation was closed following the conviction of Wayne Bertram Williams for two of the murders in 1982; after the trial, law enforcement linked Williams to 20 more of the 29 murders.

When will new episodes of Mindhunter come out?

This is another thing we don’t know for sure but can speculate about. Netflix typically airs new seasons of dramas within a year of each other. According to SpoilerTV, Season 2 started production in May and is expected to wrap up in December. Based on that as well as how perfectly this creepy show fits in with the Halloween season, it’s probably safe to think Season 2 will likely premiere in fall of 2018.

How involved will David Fincher be in the series?

We can look at House of Cards for guidance about this one. After directing two episodes of the political drama’s first season, Fincher largely stepped aside from the series to solely act as its executive producer. It wouldn’t be surprising if Mindhunter followed the same trend. Fincher directed the first two and the last two episodes of the serial killer series.

Charlize Theron is also associated with the show, but at the moment she’s only listed as an executive producer. Only time will tell if her involvement in the show will increase.
