There are a lot of things to freak out about after finishing Season 2 of Stranger Things on Netflix—puberty! the amazing Noah Schnapp! that Shadow Monster exorcism!—but perhaps the most important thing to freak out about is Steve Harrington’s big hair.

Yup, you read that right: the internet is obsessed with the gravity-defying, product-filled mop atop Steve’s (Joe Keery‘s) head. I mean, his hairdo is absolutely massive throughout the entire second season, so it’s no surprise that people are mesmerized by it. What is surprising is that Steve’s hair has gotten as much attention from Stranger Things fans as any other character in the show.

Look at that volume! Honestly, how does it stay up? Remember when we didn’t know what the Upside Down was? Well, the mystery surrounding Steve’s unbelievable flow may be just as intense. Screw #fitspo, let’s talk about #hairspo.

In order to get some more intel on Steve’s hair, we reached out to Stranger Things Casting Director Carmen Cuba. Cuba told us that initially, the Duffer brothers were worried that Joe Keery’s hair would be too long for the part, and they were debating having him cut it. However, when Keery met the show’s producers, “one of them thought his hair was awesome and that [Keery] reminded him of Michael Bowen in Valley Girl,” says Cuba. After that meeting, the Duffers decided to let Keery keep his long hair, and a star was born (the hair, obviously, although Keery himself is also pretty good).

While there’s much more to say about Steve’s hair, Decider’s own Jade Budowski sums up our feelings about the subject pretty accurately.
