The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature

The lovable critters from 2014’s The Nut Job are back in action, and this time there’s a “weapon of mouse destruction” on the loose. That “weapon” is, of course, voiced by Jackie Chan, and aimed at an amusement park that threatens Surly’s (Will Arnett) home. If you’re looking for a 91-minute long distraction for the kids, then it’s time to get a little nutty.

This indie comedy follows the various goings on of a number of quirky New Yorkers. Record collecting, murder, teen drama, this movie packs a lot of plot into its 84 minutes. It also has a killer cast, including the onscreen team-up of Michael Cera and Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson.

Congo

Adapted from a Michael Crichton novel, Congo hoped to ride Jurassic Park’s wave of success by giving audiences another creature feature with wild special effects. If you substitute dinosaurs for aggressive gorillas and Laura Dern for Laura Linney, you can see what Congo was trying to pull off when it opened in 1995. It didn’t entirely work, as critics weren’t too kind to it, but the film’s got a campiness that worth’s revisiting. Remember, Tim Curry is in this! Congo is 109 minutes long.
