Since the show debuted last year, the Stranger Things kids have skyrocketed to celebrity status. While they’re certainly fun to watch and follow during their press appearances, many fans seem to forget that the stars – whose ages range from 13 to 16 – are children. 14-year-old Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler on the show, recently became the subject of harassment on Twitter when a fan posted a video (now deleted) and accompanying tweet:

Imagine being 14 and heartless that you can’t even stop for your fans who made you famous in the first place! WOW. @FinnSkata #FinnWolfhard  — @chandlerborrero

While Wolfhard never addressed this tweet directly, his co-stars came to his defense. After recent events involving harassment (including the sexualization of 13-year-old Millie Bobby Brown) and uncomfortable public run-ins with fans for multiple Stranger Things cast members, Wolfhard took to his Twitter to call out this behavior.

It didn’t take long for the rest of Twitter to join in. Many users applauded Wolfhard’s maturity and commented on the insanity of a child having to make a statement because of inappropriate behavior coming from adults.

Whether or not Wolfhard’s tweets will affect fan behavior remains to be seen, but he makes an important point – they are just kids doing their jobs. (And they don’t owe any of us anything).
