Who Is Damien Molony, The Dreamy Driving Instructor From ‘GameFace’?

So you’re watching the super fun British comedy series GameFace, as all of season 1 is available now on Hulu, and you’re like, “OMG that Marcella is such a hoot!” But then you’re also like, “Hey what’s the deal with that driving instructor dude?” So glad you asked!

In the first episode, Jon, played by Irish actor Damien Molony, just seems to be yet another task that Roisin Conaty’s Marcella continues to blow off. He spends more time calling her from the driving instructor car asking if she’s going to show up for their lesson that day than she actually spends behind the wheel. In episode two, he offers to go pick her up from her Wildinspired adventure, and after a joke about being invited inside her apartment…yep, a spark has totally been detected. Where their will they/won’t they vibe goes from there, well you’ll have to see for yourself!

But if Molony looks familiar to you, he just might be. And if he doesn’t, oh, he’s going to.

How do I know this guy?

You may have caught him in a variety of productions, both on-stage and on-screen. His first TV role was that of Hal the vampire on Being Human. He also starred in the Victorian BBC drama Ripper Street (now streaming on Netflix), as well as crime drama Suspects and mini-series Clean Break – both of which are available on Acorn TV now. Perhaps you peeped him in the films Kill Your Friends and Tiger Raid? But it’s most likely that you recognize him as Anthony from Crashing, where he starred opposite Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge. And we’re talking about the British comedy series currently available on Netflix (and totally worth watching), not the Pete Holmes HBO show. That one’s nice too, but you won’t see Molony in it.

What else does he have coming up?

You’ll be able to see him with Benedict Cumberbatch in The Current War. The film was supposed be released this month, but it’s a Weinstein Co. movie and so in light of recent events we’ll have to wait until 2018 to see it.

So for now, you can continue to watch all 6 episodes of GameFace as many times as you want and a) appreciate how charming he is in the show and b) be thankful that you weren’t stuck with such a handsome distraction as your driving instructor — would’ve made the lessons quite dangerous!

Any other fun facts?

Molony’s not just a talented actor, he’s totally a giver, too. One glance at his Instagram lets you know he’s majorly into donating blood, and not just to get the cool stickers that come along with it. One social media platform not enough for you? You can follow him on Twitter too.
