‘Schitt’s Creek’ Season 3: The Roses Practice What Little Humility They Have Left

If you were to peruse Netflix’s family comedy section you would come across a hidden Canadian gem called Schitt’s Creek. The Pop TV original series centers on a wealthy family who loses everything but their deed to a small underdeveloped town, where they are forced to reside and swallow their pride. In Season 3, which just recently aired in Canada and is now available in the States via Netflix, the Roses start to practice what little humility they have left. (ALERT: SPOILERS AHEAD!)

As they further accept their current situation, the Roses seek to continue to assimilate with the townspeople and rebuild their empire. Moira has taken ownership of her newly-appointed town council title, weighing in on both small and large political issues (like whether or not to allow the seasonal chain Christmas Town to set up shop in the general store). While she was reluctant to involve herself with the town’s affairs, Moira has started to take pride in her contributions to Schitt’s Creek. That doesn’t mean she’s completely devoid of her old life, however, as her excitement about a potential starring role in a foreign movie and an artistic photoshoot suggests.

John Rose has joined forces with Stevie, who now owns the motel they are staying at, to help drum up business. He employs some of his business knowledge and entrepreneurial mindset to implement a number of well-intentioned (but poorly executed) changes like a continental breakfast for guests and coasters with the motel’s “Tweeter” handle printed on them. In the season finale, Johnny is successful in booking all of the rooms and selling out the motel, a feat that he was vocally proud of.

David has leased the space where the failed general store once stood and has turned it into a successful small town boutique named Rose Apothecary. While he at first struggles to define what kind of store he was looking to develop, he is able to combine his knowledge of fashion and beauty products to help promote local products and create a thriving business. His not-so-soft opening of the store ends up being a great success.

Alexis continues to work at Ted’s Veterinary office and has also gone back to high school in hopes of getting her GED, which she is successful in doing. While John is reluctant to trust that Alexis will succeed on her own, even editing her paper without her permission, the Rose family comes together to celebrate Alexis’ graduation (among other things) in the Season 3 finale.

As the Rose family continues to cement their presence in the legacy of Schitt’s Creek, they seem to have almost finally accepted their fate. A true realization of this fact is when Moira and John realize one of their last belongings, a massive family portrait that was shipped to them, does not literally fit anywhere or who they are as people anymore. Between the phenomenal acting and laugh out loud comedy that the Eugene and Dan Levy-produced series radiates, we can only expect Season 4 to surpass expectations. The next installment, which is slated to premiere on Canadian TV on January 24, will continue to build on the Rose family’s redefined relationships, both old and new.
