‘She’s Gotta Have It’ on Netflix: Watch Spike Lee’s Original 1986 Movie On Netflix Before The Series Drops

We’re so, so close to the release of Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It Netflix series. It premieres this Thursday, November 23, Thanksgiving Day — so plan your turkey dinner accordingly!

If you’re hoping to watch the original She’s Gotta Have It film before you binge the series, you’re in luck — it’s currently available for streaming. And guess where? Right on Netflix!

The film follows the life of Brooklynite Nola Darling, an artist dating three different men: the rich and suave Jamie, sexy model Greer (who would be constantly taking selfies of himself if they existed in 1986), and the funny bike messenger Mars (played by Spike Lee in the film, as if he wasn’t busy enough already serving as writer and director).

Thirty years ago, it was an eyebrow-raising concept for a woman to be so free and sexually liberated. In 2017? Sigh, it still kinda is, but we’re getting there. However, we highly recommend watching the original black and white film in preparation for the new series.

Let’s just say that when you watch the first episode of the Netflix show, it will look awfully familiar  if you’ve seen the movie. The show evolves into its own world from there, but essentially mirrors the movie — only, you know, in color and with modern references sprinkled in.

Check out the She’s Gotta Have It film on Netflix now before you start your binge of the show to see why the material was ripe for a remake.
