‘Ball In The Family’ On Facebook Watch: Get To Know Trump’s Latest Twitter Obsession, LaVar Ball

You didn’t think Steph Curry and the Warriors would be the only basketball players to get shoutouts on Donald Trump’s Twitter this year, did you? He’s spent the last week patting himself on the back and expecting praise from LiAngelo (Gelo) Ball, as well as his outspoken father LaVar Ball (who is also dad to Lonzo Ball, selected second overall by the Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft), but to no avail. After LiAngelo was arrested and released on suspicion of shoplifting in China, Trump was looking for a big ol’ thank you, but if anyone is expecting one from LaVar, well, they might be waiting awhile. Also, no word yet from LeBron.

If you’re wondering who this family of basketball superstars are and want a little more context on the current events, check out the Facebook Watch series, Ball in the Family, which is kind of like Keeping Up With The Kardashians, but with basketball players (you know, not just as husbands and boyfriends). This is no accident: the two series share a production company, Bunim/Murray Productions, and are a fun and frivolous look at two uniquely American families.

The series gives you a pretty clear look at why LaVar has driven sports commentators crazy (and now Trump as well), and why he just might be justified in all his yapping: his sons (Lonzo, Gelo, and Melo) are pretty damn good at basketball. But it’s not all jump shots and high-fives — Ball in the Family also gives a touching look at how the family is coping with their mom Tina’s recent stroke.

Episode 1 takes you behind the scenes of the NBA Draft, and subsequent installments address girlfriends, shoes, and cars, naturally. But as a whole, the series is a nice look at the family that never had any problem making headlines, even before they recently crossed over into the world of politics.
