Hulu Has All The Food Network and HGTV Shows You Need To Survive The Holidays

Near the end of last month, as I was searching Netflix for Halloween-themed episodes of Cupcake Wars (because, yes, I know how to party), I learned that the service purged itself of all its longstanding Food Network and HGTV shows earlier this year. If you’re anything like me, then you know that Netflix has always been the spot to watch old episodes of your favorite food, home, AND garden themed programming. Giada at Home, and The Barefoot Contessa were my most watched series of all time. And now they’re just gone, without so much as a goodbye.

So where can I watch Chopped now?? Ask my parents as they angrily search their Apple TV for clues.

Well! You’ll be pleased to know that starting in July and continuing into the fall, Hulu has slowly added a ton of classic series from Food Network, HGTV, and the Travel Channel to its streaming service. Not every single series is on Hulu (yet!), but they have a damn good selection for fanatics like you and me.

Read on to see a list of all available shows, as well as my personal recommendations of which ones to binge with the family on Thanksgiving. Hah. Binge! Thanksgiving! Get it? I’m sorry, and Happy Holidays!

Cupcake Wars

Cupcakes: the ultimate comfort food. Cupcake Wars: the ultimate in comfort TV. This is the perfect show to watch with a diverse group. It’s just mindless enough that you can talk over the entire thing and not miss a beat, but it’s also intensely high stakes and you will get sucked in and find yourself screaming about caramel guitar decorations while eating leftover pie at 1 am. Turn this on for a joyous crowd pleaser, post-Thanksgiving dinner.

Good Eats

If tamales have a spot on your Thanksgiving table, then watch the Good Eats episode named “Tamale Never Dies” to learn some fascinating facts about the dish’s history. If you don’t serve tamales, then you can watch this informative series and learn how to cook them! Anyway, I’m starving and I want tamales. Can I come over for Thanksgiving?

Good Bones

As Meghan has already explained in wonderful detail, Good Bones represents the best of what HGTV has to offer. It’s aspirational television that still feels grounded. Let Karen and Mina soothe you after a stressful day of putting together a holiday meal. Or, if you didn’t make the food, put this on while you wash dishes for some relaxing background noise. (Have fun washing all those weird serving platters!)
