Leah Remini Accuses The LAPD Of Covering Up Rape Case Involving Scientologist Danny Masterson

The delayed sexual assault case against actor Danny Masterson has taken a surprising turn. Earlier this month, the Huffington Post reported that the case agains the That ’70s Show and The Ranch actor had been inexplicably delayed despite having what one authority called “overwhelming evidence.” Now, in a long piece by the The Daily Beast, Leah Remini has spoken out about the charges against Masterson, claiming that they are being delayed because of the LAPD’s close connection to the Church of Scientology.

In mid November, The Huffington Post published a bombshell piece, revealing that actor Danny Masterson had been accused of rape by four women and was at the center of a criminal investigation. However, despite the large amount of evidence, the case against the actor has stalledThe Huffington Post reports, “the charges have not been approved for filing.” It should also be noted that Netflix, which is the home of the Masterson-led The Ranch, has so far taken no action agains the actor. This is in direct contrast to how the streaming service handled allegations against Kevin Spacey and Louis C.K.

Back in March, journalist Tony Ortega broke the news about the LAPD’s alleged cover-ups of Masterson’s crimes. Ortega’s article is thorough, including time stamped police documents and interviews with several of the victims. Later in November, The Huffington Post‘s Yashar Ali has confirmed that there is evidence connecting the LAPD to Masterson’s delayed case. “The evidence includes audiotapes, emails sent to and from Scientology officers at the time the alleged rapes happened, forensic computer evidence and a threatening handwritten letter Masterson sent to one of the alleged victims, according to two people with knowledge of the evidence in the district attorney’s possession,” Ali wrote in his article “Despite ‘Overwhelming’ Evidence Against Actor Danny Masterson, Rape Case Has Stalled.”

Now Remini has spoken out about the LAPD’s connection to the church and the alleged cover-up. The actress and advocate said that the LAPD Hollywood division’s close ties with the Church of Scientology make cases like Masterson’s and Shelly Miscavige’s problematic. “The captain of that department, Cory Palka, goes to the Scientology Celebrity Centre often. There are pictures of him hanging at Celebrity Centre,” she said.

Remini also explained, “Scientology is very slick in that it’s partnered in this Police Activities League with the Hollywood division, and every year around Christmastime Celebrity Centre International right on Franklin presents the Hollywood Police Department with a check for this Police Activities League, which gives back to children,” she said. “What it’s done is it’s aligned itself as per its policies, because there are Scientology policies that say, ‘Safe-point yourself to the area police department because then nobody will attack your good works,’ so it’s all very pointed and calculated.”
