“NSFW.” It’s an acronym that has saved many from potential embarrassment in the home and the office. It means, as you well know, “Not Safe For Work.” The implication being that what you’re about to see on screen is tawdry, explicit, and potentially profane. It’s also probably loads of fun.
Thanks to the rise of streaming services and premium cable, the lines of censorship have become increasingly blurred on TV. Full-frontal nudity and graphic sex aren’t as hard to find as they used to be. But what about the alternative? What about sexy scenes that can still make it past the censors? In the last year, many networks flirted with the line of propriety. Traditionally family-friendly networks like PBS pushed the envelope with what they could and could not show on the traditionally uptight Masterpiece Theater, while ballsy networks like Netflix and HBO found new ways to titillate us without resorting to shocking nudity. And in some ways, those were the scenes that made us sit up most of all.
We’ve gone through the year and found 10 of the sexiest, dirtiest, craziest moments that somehow pass the “SFW” filter. That means there’s no outright nudity. It’s all suggestive. And it’s not just stuff for adults — it’s on programs designed to be watched together as a family.
Do these scenes go too far? Or do you wish they had been a little bit more NSFW?
