It was a rough year for a lot of us, but wow did the Real Housewives seem to have it tough. We felt for these women as they dealt with many common struggles, from their health to their hearts. Well, you know, except the one starting rape rumors.
While we enjoyed the drama, we also felt the heartbreak of these women. Who among us hasn’t dabbled in stress eating or gone through a tough breakup or tried their damn best to make a new group of gal pals, only to be judged and left out?
Luckily, these ladies let us in to their lives and bared it all. They might have the money and the glamorous lives, but hey, they have shitty years just like the rest of us. Here, we’ll examine the women who have gone through relationship troubles, health issues, lies, and straight up looked kinda dumb this year, to figure out who truly had it worst, even when we were having the best time watching it all go down.
Teresa
This season of RHONJ started off immediately with a big bummer: Teresa’s mom had passed away. We’ve since come full circle and are back to Teresa’s aggressive chair-shoving ways, but it’s hard not to feel bad for her (especially if you read her new book). Not having your mom around, and caring for your father, all while your husband is away in prison and you’re trying to raise four daughters is a LOT to handle, no matter how much yoga you try to fit in. Tre’s gonna be Tre, but this year, it’s hard not to feel like you just want to give her a hug.
Porsha
2017 wasn’t quite a breezy vaca for Porsha. She fell right on into Phaedra’s web of lies and went along with it all until she was tearfully gasping for breath and grasping for hugs at the reunion. It just wasn’t a great look for her. With this new season, she’s up against NeNe, which…will be hard for that to work in her favor. She didn’t have the worst year…but she’s probably not going to look back on 2017 super fondly.
Lisa Rinna
The bunny! Wow. That plastic-wrapped rabbit is now living its best life in the Watch What Happens Live studio, but what a journey it was to get there. Rinna had a bit of a rough year over in the Beverly Hills franchise. After flashing her plastic baggie of pills, she was accused of sipping one too many Xanax smoothies, and then lashed out by asking Dorit if she was having a coke party at her house (all because Rinna was left alone at the table during a dinner party, which, tbh, is a bummer in itself). Then the bunny thing happened: she says she presented it to Kim as a peace offering of sorts, as a nice gesture for her new grandchild. Motives were questioned, the bunny remained unopened, and subsequently returned, to which Rinna could only reply with a single tear rolling down her face. The bunny found its forever home, and Rinna is back for more, with the new season of RHOBH kicking off this week. We’re so damn excited, we might need to bust out our pill bags too.
Peggy
The RHOC gals were less than welcoming to Peggy. Is she a unique type of woman? You bet your Bentley she is. But she was simply looking for some female support, and all she was met with were skeptical questions about her health status. Fresh off losing her father, followed by a breast cancer scare, she jumped right into this volcano of drama. With the exception of Lydia, and even Vicki (!), no one cared enough to get to know her, which resulted in her finally packing her shit and leaving Iceland early (on a private plane) by the end of the season. Why would they like this woman, who has a stable, supportive, and adorable relationship with her husband Diko, three normal children, and whose only crime was yearning for new gal pals? Luckily, Peggy is a tough cookie, and we can only hope she comes back for more. Don’t do that thing where you close other ladies’ lips though, no matter how much of a favor you’re actually doing them.
Tinsley
Sorry, girl, but you make living in a hotel feel just a little less glamorous than Eloise. But living with Sonja didn’t appear to be a picnic at all! Who knew you had to be on 24/7 package duty while staying with the RHONY star? Honestly, I haven’t seen this much rooming drama since college dorm days (and for the record, the division of rooms in Mexico made me break out in stress hives) but it just never seemed to end. It was a rough debut season for Tins, but hopefully not one that will deter her from returning for more. Just ship your shit up from Florida and find a place to live, you’re a grown woman — and one that needs a place to retreat to after spending a day with these ladies.
LeeAnne
Homegirl got a flesh eating bacteria! Not a fun time! And honestly, the RHOD reunion only looked slightly more fun that that. It was basically LeeAnne against the world as all the women aired (read: yelled) their grievances at her, making it clear she has very few allies within the cast. Ok, so the Two Faced costume didn’t really help with that. But still, we weren’t feeling too envious of LeeAnne this year is all.
LuAnn
She dropped the Countess for a Creep! Poor Lu — all those hours and hours of the other RHONY women claiming to have heard rumors and seen pictures of Tom creeping all over town, she finally had enough. Oh, but not before taping the reunion episodes. That’s right, Bravo had to insert a disclaimer that reunion episodes were recorded before the big news broke. We got to watch Lu defend him and claim she would leave if she caught him cheating. Well, just weeks later she was joining Andy Cohen in the Hamptons for a sit down tell-all about why she decided to leave Tom after all. It was equal parts Hallelujah and Oh, Honey, but now we can’t help but wonder what these women will possibly talk about next season? Just send them back to Mexico and make sure there’s plenty of tequila on hand.
Shannon
Shannon had a rough season on RHOC this year. Mostly it’s because she simply wasn’t herself. She was dealing with her weight gain, letting a few extra lbs. shake her confidence in herself, while pointing the blame at Vicki for her stress-fueled overeating, instead of owning up to the problems going on in her own home. By the time the reunion rolled around, Shannon was admitting that she was separated from her husband, David. It wasn’t just a bummer for her — as viewers, we missed that sense of humor she brought to the show. With the encouragement of her pal Tamra, we can tell she’s already getting back on track, and we’ll look forward to some exceptional one-liners next year, girl.
Phaedra
Safe to say, getting yourself fired from your job allows you to claim you’ve had the worst year ever. Phaedra Parks is guilty as charged, as she owned up to starting the rumor about Kandi wanting to drug Porsha and take her back home — accusing her of being a rapist. Once this came out during the FOUR part RHOA reunion, Phaedra spent the rest of her time on the couch twitching and twisting her lips into weird shapes, remaining silent when she didn’t have a good answer for most of Andy Cohen’s questions. It was an inexcusable move on her part and was only right that she wasn’t invited back on the show. Damn girl, that is cold.
