‘Planet Earth II’ Is Now On Netflix

It’s hard to watch truly great television with your family. Though there’s no surplus of excellent shows, buzz-worthy dramas are almost always too graphic, and you can only rely on sitcom re-runs for so long. If you’re looking for something truly wonderful and family-friendly to watch during the last week of the year, Netflix and BBC America have you covered. Planet Earth II is now blessedly on Netflix.

Shot a decade after the first Planet Earth, Planet Earth II is a sort of sequel to the first critically-acclaimed nature documentary, but it’s more than that. The six-part series is a celebration of how far we’ve come in our understanding of animals and of the evolution of technology. Also, this season has a lizard and snake chase that’s every bit as thrilling as Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Presented and narrated by Sir David Attenborough and with a score by Hans Zimmer, Planet Earth II focuses on some of the most remote, dangerous, and odd environments where animals have made their homes. From the sub-Antarctic island of Zavodovski, a place so remote it took the docu-series’ crew several days to access by helicopter, to the peregrine falcons that hunt among New York City’s skyscrapers, Planet Earth II proves that no matter what the conditions are or what the environment is, life will find a way. If you’re looking for something to throw on TV that’s fascinating, intelligent, and will make everyone coo at baby animals, this gorgeous and masterful docu-series is a great option.
