Facebook Claims Exclusive Live-Streaming Rights to 2018 Golden Globes Red Carpet

Facebook is the exclusive official live-streaming platform for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards red-carpet show.

The social-media giant secured the deal with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Prods., which is producing the kudocast on Sunday, Jan. 7. The two-hour preshow, The HFPA Presents: Globes Red Carpet Live, produced by DCP in association with the HFPA, will live-stream exclusively on the Golden Globes Facebook page from 6-8 p.m. ET (3-5 p.m. PT).

Hosts for the Golden Globes pre-show on Facebook are slated to include AJ Gibson, Jeannie Mai, Scott Mantz, and Laura Marano. As part of the partnership, 360-degree videos will be captured from the red carpet and throughout the pre-show and distributed on the Golden Globes’ Facebook page. The HFPA also will share exclusive red-carpet and backstage content on Facebook and the @goldenglobes account on Instagram. And on Jan. 7, the @Instagram Story — followed by 229 million users — will be hosted by actress-singer Laura Marano.

In addition, under the partnership, Golden Globes media partners on the red carpet will use Facebook and Instagram Live to share photos, videos and moments as they happen.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Facebook and give viewers a front-row seat to the red carpet that can’t be found anywhere else,” HFPA president Meher Tatna said in a statement. “We hope to enhance the overall viewing experience so fans at home can feel they’re enjoying the show alongside their favorite stars at Hollywood’s biggest party of the year.”

Sibyl Goldman, Facebook’s head of entertainment partnerships, added, “We always aim to create unique experiences which bring communities together, and partaking in the kickoff of award season in conjunction with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a demonstration of our commitment to bring fans together through entertainment they enjoy.”

During the awards show on Sunday, winners and presenters backstage will step into the official Instagram studio experience shot by photographer Ramona Rosales. The exclusive photo and video content will be posted to @GoldenGlobes on Instagram in real time with behind-the-scenes moments shared on Instagram Stories.

Additionally, the HFPA will incorporate a fan-driven Q&A into the backstage press room, where select questions will be sourced via Facebook and streamed live on the Golden Globes Facebook page.

NBC will broadcast the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, on Sunday, Jan. 7, from 8-11 p.m. ET/5-8 p.m. PT.
