Netflix’s ‘Lovesick’ Season 3, Episode 3 ‘Abigail (Part 3)’ Reveals The Show’s Big Secret

If you’ve been following Dylan (Johnny Flynn) and Evie’s (Antonia Thomas) relationship in Netflix’s British rom-com Lovesick for the past two seasons, you would have noticed that there’s a ton of unspoken romantic feelings between the two that loom over the group. The original series does a great job at allowing the characters to persist in upholding their unrealistic title of “friends” while at the same time making their undeniable love for each other quite clear.

In Season 3, Episode 3 of the series titled “Abigail (Part 3),” everything is finally out in the open when Dylan (SPOILER ALERT!) confronts his girlfriend Abigail (Hannah Britland) about a literary short story she wrote that he overhears at a public reading. In the personal short story, Abigail describes a character who visits her bar and expresses her love for their mutual acquaintance. Dylan instantly connects the story to the night where Evie connected with Abigail (while she was tending bar at a wedding) in a former season.

To provide some context, the series began with Dylan learning he has chlamydia, which sets him out on a mission to inform and urge all of his past sex partners to get themselves checked out as well. He recounts a number of his experiences along the way to his close friend Evie, who he had also hooked up with. The two characters develop strong feelings for each other, however, due to bad timing relating to them always being coupled up with other people, they’ve never confessed their feelings. That is, until now.

When Dylan confronts Abigail about her story while the group is out partying in a club during Season 3, things get extremely uncomfortable as Abigail explains that the reason why she didn’t want Dylan to hear the story is because it’s “not her story to tell.” She then confronts Evie who admits to being in love with Dylan. Dylan also can’t give Abigail a straight answer when she asks him when he stopped loving Evie. Abigail leaves and Dylan finds Evie, who is anxious to see him now that she’s laid all of her feelings out on the table. The two leave the club holding hands as Dylan comments “there’s a lot to talk about.” Evie agrees but suggests that they “start tomorrow” before the episode ends with a charged kiss between the two.

Lovesick is a great emotionally charged rom-com for anyone looking for a show that identifies with the growing pains of love and friendship. While more unfolds throughout the rest of Season 3, this episode suggests that there is a happy ending in sight for Dylan and Evie. Despite its many ups and downs, their relationship is one of the most intriguing to watch on television right now, and we look forward to seeing additional installations of the series that address its final outcome. All three seasons are currently available to stream via Netflix.
