Natalie Portman Got In A Pretty Great — And VERY Accurate — Dig While Presenting At the Golden Globes

Natalie Portman used her time on stage at the Golden Globes presenting the Best Director award with Ron Howard to get the perfect dig in at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. She made the very true observation, “And here are the all male nominees,” before rattling off Guillermo del Toro as the winner for The Shape Of Water.

As they also announced Steven Spielberg for The Post, Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk, Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Ridley Scott for All the Money in the Worldviewers couldn’t help but notice that the gents were left awkwardly looking around the room.

And then after a brief break, the Globes added insult to injury by introducing Greta Gerwig as “the writer and director of Lady Bird” and it’s like, yeah we know that, DO YOU? The film even went on to win Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, so HELLO, HFPA, wake on up.

During a night where the major theme has continued to be #MeToo and #TimesUp, the acceptance speeches, especially from women, have been largely inspiring and positive. That Portman took the opportunity to use the microphone for a bit more of a critique towards the show was only right. Her message was accurate! We can only hope the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was listening and will take note next year.
