On one hand, yes, there are too many quality shows on television. On the other hand, none of those programs are Riverdale. It’s been almost an entire month since we’ve been treated to an all-new episode of The CW’s sultry teen noir. Thirty days since we’ve last seen Pop Tate serve a milkshake or Archie pop his shirt off for no discernible reason whatsoever. December’s chilling midseason finale raised more questions than answers, but the only query on the mind of the passionate Riverdale fandom is, “When in the name of Cheryl Blossom will the series return with all-new episodes?”
Don’t worry, Riverdale faithful. Unlike Sheriff Keller’s bumbling inability to catch The Black Hood, we here at Decider have solved the case of the return of Riverdale.
WHEN DOES RIVERDALE RETURN?
Fear not, fans of teen drama, murder mysteries, and milkshakes: Riverdale returns next week, Wednesday, January 17th at 8:00 p.m. Eastern to be exact, with an all-new episode.
WHAT HAPPENED DURING RIVERDALE’S MIDSEASON FINALE?
A lot. The Blackhood was seemingly revealed to be Joseph Conway/Mr. Svenson, but, c’mon, this is The CW. The end of the episode suggests that the real Blackhood isn’t quite finished wreaking havoc on the quiet hamlet of Riverdale.
Menacing murders aside, the real news of the episode was the surprising lip lock between Archie and Betty. The episode began with the core four — Archie/Veronica and Betty/Jughead — on the outs, but despite Archie and Betty’s brief fling, both pairs of high school sweethearts reconciled by episodes end.
WHAT’S THE SYNOPSIS OF THE NEXT ALL-NEW EPISODE?
Next week’s offering, “Chapter 23: The Blackboard Jungle,” centers on Jughead and the rest of the students from the Southside transferring to Riverdale High. The B-plot follows Betty’s quest to find her long-lost brother.
