Hulu Orders Monthly Horror Anthology Series From Blumhouse TV

Hulu is about to get a bit spookier. The streaming service has announced that it has partnered with Blumhouse TV, a company known for producing low-budget, beloved horror movies, to release a monthly horror anthology series. Though there are currently no directors or stars attracted to the project, this will be the first anthology series of its kind. The first episode is set to premiere in October.

If you’re going to pick a partner for a horror anthology series, you can’t get better than Blumhouse. The production company is known for producing low-budget horror films such as InsidiousThe PurgeSplitParanormal ActivityCreepand Sinister. The film branch of the company is also the studio behind last year’s horror phenomenon, Get Out. Each episode of the anthology series is supposed to stand as its own self-contained story, a horror format that Channel 4 and later Netflix’s Black Mirror has perfected over the years. However, Hulu and Blumhouse TV have announced that there will be a narrative connection between the episodes.

“At the heart of the deal is an extremely passionate audience and an extremely activateable audience in terms of horror,” Hulu’s Chief Content Officer Joel Stillerman said to Variety. “It’s not even the larger bucket of ‘genre.’ I would say this falls squarely into the horror bucket. And it’s brought to us by, I would say in many ways that would be hard to argue, the consummate producers in that genre today.” This untitled project marks the first major programming decision Stillerman has made since moving to Hulu.
