Will There Be A Season 2 Of ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ On Netflix?

You can find one of the low-key best watches of the new year hiding on Netflix. Co-produced by the streaming service and Channel 4, The End of the F***ing World is the sweetest story about a potential murderer ever to hit streaming. Starring Alex Lawther (Black Mirror) and Jessica Barden (Penny Dreadful), the twisted rom-com follows a teenage boy (Lawther) who decides he wants to murder his rebellious and ever-angry girlfriend, Alyssa (Barden). It’s what would happen if a darker Wes Anderson adapted a John Green book.

It’s also a series that ends on a huge twist. Over the course of eight episodes, the series based on Charles S. Forsman’s comic builds around the relationship of its two leads, following their transformation from two morally questionable anti-heroes into a couple anyone who has ever been an angst-filled teenager can root for. That twist paired with how bingeable the series is has caused some fans to wonder when can we expect more from James and Alyssa. Here’s what we know so far. Spoilers ahead.

What happened at the end of Season 1?

A lot, but here’s the shortened version of the show’s dramatic conclusion. After stealing James’ father’s (Steve Oram) car, James and Alyssa bounce around from stranger’s home to stranger’s home, trying to decide what to do next. Alyssa wants to find a way out of her old life, and James still just wants to kill Alyssa. That’s how they find themselves in the home of Clive (Jonathan Aris), a seemingly kind author who is revealed to be a serial killer and rapist.

Alyssa and James kill Clive in an act of self defense, which completely eliminates any doubts James has that he’s a psychopath. The couple spends the rest of the season on the run from the authorities. In the last episode, they’re caught, but rather than letting Alyssa get punished for the crime she committed, James takes the fall, knocking down Alyssa in front of the police and running away to make it look like he’s the only guilty person. “Episode 8” ends with the police firing and James falling down after presumably getting shot. We don’t know if this scene marks James’ death, but we sure hope it doesn’t.

Will there be a Season 2 for The End of the F***ing World?

At the moment, the series hasn’t been renewed. However, if it there is a second season, we can likely expect it to premiere around the same time as Season 1. If Season 2 gets a Channel 4 and All 4 UK premiere date ahead of its Netflix premiere like the show’s first season did, new episodes can be expected in late October of this year. If not, then the series will likely be available in the U.S. and globally in early 2019.

What could happen in Season 2 of The End of the F***ing World?

The big question will obviously be about James. Did that bullet kill him or can he recover? And if he does survive, what consequences will he have to face now that he’s 18?

Forsman’s comic ended on a far less hopeful note. After Alyssa returns home, she carves the name “James” into her left arm, implying her boyfriend has died. Hopefully this deviation from the original ending means that Season 2 may happen, which is a very good thing. I need to know what’s going on between Eunice Noon (Gemma Whelan) and Teri Donoghue (Wunmi Mosaku).
