When Does ‘Disjointed’ Season 2 Come Out?

UPDATED (2/14/18): Sorry, Disjointed fans, Netflix has announced that they’ve canceled the show after one season.

After lighting up back in August, the smoke has finally cleared on Disjointed‘s first season. Netflix just dropped the second half of Season 1 of the Kathy Bates pot-com, wrapping up the wild trips of the employees at Ruth’s Alternative Caring.

Okay, before I go any further, let’s clear up something that might be confusing: the batch of Disjointed episodes that Netflix just dropped is not Season 2. It’s the second half of Season 1. It’s a nitpicky distinction, but one I gotta make up top because there can be (understandably) a lot of confusion about this. So yeah, Disjointed has one season, released as two halves, that total 20 episodes. Got it? Cool.

So back on track, let’s get down to the real business: what’s up with Disjointed’s future?

Did Season 1 end on a cliffhanger?

Not really. All of the season’s plotlines were tied up and the ending, while open-ended, was also pretty conclusive.

So what happened in the season finale? The supporting cast all made nice with each other, with Olivia (Elizabeth Alderfer) breaking off her business partnership with douchey pot entrepreneur Angelo (Ken Marino) and returning to her friends and job at the dispensary. Jenny (Elizabeth Ho) decided that the dispensary was her true calling and she even told her overbearing mom that she’s dating security guard Carter (Tone Bell). Stoner vloggers Dank and Dabby (Chris Redd and Betsy Sodaro) got picked to be on The Amazing Race and frequent customer Maria (Nicole Sullivan) finally divorced her cheating husband. And–this really happened–master grower Pete (Dougie Baldwin) defeated the sinister artificial intelligence known as Biowave with the help of karate master Tae Kwon Doug (Michael Trucco) and Jesus Bruce Lee Christ.

But the heart of the finale was, of course, with Ruth (Bates), who faced a heartbreaking relationship hurdle with her new beau Walter (Peter Riegert). Walter told Ruth that his cancer was terminal. In order to spare Ruth’s feelings, Walter told her that he wanted to spend his last six months on Earth alone, rather than force Ruth to go through that journey with him. Ruth gave him what he wanted, ignoring the pain it caused her until she got some words of encouragement from Maria. Ruth realized she wanted to spend as much time with Walter as possible, even if that time is limited, and the two reconnected to embark on a big, final road trip together.

And that’s where Season 1 leaves off, with Ruth and Walter on the open road looking for adventure (but not paying a visit to Death Valley). There’s still plenty that can be done in Season 2, either with more of Ruth and Walter’s trip or Ruth’s mournful return to R.A.C. There’s also relationship comedy to explore between Carter and Jenny, and more will they/won’t they with Olivia and Travis (Aaron Moten). Oh–also Dank and Dabby are going to be on The Amazing Race, which is too insane of a development for us to just never see.

When does Season 2 come out?

If you consider the second half of Season 1 to be Season 2, then it’s already out. But that would be incorrect! What we’re really wondering is when will the next batch of Disjointed episodes be ready for consumption, whether you call it Season 2 or Disjointed Part 3 or whatever. The answer is… who knows? Netflix has yet to order more Disjointed, so whether or not more is on the way is unknown at this point. If there is more on the way, using fellow Netflix multi-cam comedy The Ranch’s release schedule as a guide, we could see more Disjointed in about eight months, so maybe September 2018. But that’s only if Netflix renews the show!
