Mulder And Scully Totally Had Sex And ‘X-Files’ Fans Are Losing It

The moment that some X-Files fans have waited a quarter century for has finally, unquestionably, come: Mulder and Scully have done it. And not only have the done it, they’ve had sex twice in one episode!

The episode in question is “Plus One,” the third episode of The X-Files’ currently-airing 11th season. No matter your opinion on the X-Files new seasons, diehard fans have to be glad they exist because they contain this long-awaited moment, as decades of sexual chemistry (and a whole season of secret sex!) have finally paid off.

Okay, there is a downside: if shippers are looking for steamy footage of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson getting busy as their paranormal investigating FBI agents, they’re out of luck. There are no sexy GIFs to be made, folks! Apologies! Instead, there are two moments that are obvious lead-ins to sexy times, sexy times 100% confirmed by Gillian Anderson herself.

Really, “Plus One’s” plot is irrelevant here. Mulder and Scully go investigate an X-file wherein a person claims to have seen themselves right before suffering a bad accident. There are spooky twists and turns from series creator Chris Carter and another standout performance from Karin Konoval (out from under all the prosthetics she wore in the classic X-Files ep “Home”). What matters, at least for the purposes of this article, is the sex!

The case really takes an emotional toll on Mulder and Scully, as these kooky and spooky adventures are wont to do, which led Scully into Mulder’s hotel room… and her asking him to hold her. She crawls into bed with him, and they spoon, commiserating about aging and their jobs and all that stuff. When Scully brings up them someday not working, Mulder asks, “Then what would we do?” Then Scully flips over, slowly, looks Mulder in the eye, smiles, and says “We’ll think of something.”

And then the camera pans away, the obvious implication being “and then they had sex” (or ATTHS)! That’s confirmed when, in the next scene, Mulder urgently wakes a naked Scully up, telling her to “get dressed” and “put a dimmer on that afterglow.”

But that’s not all the sexy content in this episode! At the end, of the case, Mulder retreats to his adjoining hotel room, telling Scully to call him if she needs anything. “I can’t imagine that I will,” says Scully, as Mulder leaves. Then. She looks at the door. Smirks. And says to herself, “But then again, it’s not out of the realm of extreme possibility.” She then walks to the door, opens it, and Mulder is just waiting there with a grin!

And then Gillian Anderson tweeted:

Confirmation, honey!

Direct from the source!

So no, it’s not an explicit sex scene, but this is what you get with X-Files. And considering how coy the show has been in the past, Scully and Mulder getting sexy grins on their faces, making eyes at each other, canoodling in bed, and making the most of adjoining hotel rooms–all that is a big deal! And X-Philes are LOVING IT.

Listen, no matter what else happens in Season 11, this made it all worth it.
