The Lord of the Rings franchise on the brain lately, we can hardly blame you; at the end of last year, it was announced that Amazon would be turning the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien books into what is set to be the most expensive television series ever made, and since then, speculation has run wild. Before Amazon was scooping up the series for themselves, however, there was Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings trilogy – the first of which took home four Academy Awards and is now streaming on Netflix.

That’s right. You don’t need to dig up the old DVDs or shell out rental fees anymore if you’re in the mood for a trip back to the Shire. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is available on Netflix for your viewing pleasure – all 2 hours and 58 minutes of it. Join Frodo, Samwise, Gandalf, and the rest of the gang as they journey to destroy the One Ring to rule them all.

We can’t help but feel like Lord of the Rings‘ Netflix debut seems pretty interestingly timed with the announcement of Amazon’s acquisition of the rights, but we aren’t complaining. It could be years until we see the television version of this story, and who wants to try to fix something that isn’t even broken? We’re content to hang with Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Ian McKellen, and company. Who else is going to tell us we “SHALL NOT PASS!” with such incredible gusto?

So here we are. The time has come, and we shan’t waste any more of it. Grab some friends, a free evening (consisting of at least three hours), and the pint of your choice, and settle in to stream the first installment of Lord of the Rings. One does not simply ignore its presence on Netflix…

But one does wonder where the rest of the trilogy is. How can we complete a marathon without the entirety of the series? The other two films in the trilogy – The Two Towers and Return of the Kingas well as The Hobbit trilogy – are not currently streaming on Netflix or anywhere else, but here’s where you can rent or purchase them:

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
