We’ll Finally Learn How Jack Died In The ‘This Is Us’ Post Super Bowl Episode

This February, prepare to sob hysterically. During last night’s episode of This Is Us, NBC teased the special episode of the show that will be airing after the Super Bowl this year. However, the February 4 episode of This Is Us won’t be just any depressing episode of the show. It will finally be the episode that reveals to the world how Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) died.

This isn’t some creative thinking on our part after seeing last night’s preview. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ventimiglia opened up about the cause of Jack’s impending death and revealed that it will be an “absolute soul-crushing event.”

“Once you figure out the moment where it’s going to happen, you may get some hope — and then it’s all going to go away,” he said to EW. “I think the best thing I can say — or the worst thing I can say — is: It’s going to be f—ing painful.”

As for whether or not Kate (Chrissy Metz) was responsible for her father’s death, a pervasive fan theory about the show, Ventimiglia had this to say. “It’s something she still hangs onto. It took her a long time to be able to talk about her father, and she’s still not giving Toby everything she feels about Jack’s passing,” he said. “She’s had to battle her demons, and a lot of that stuff is going to come to the front of her story line.”

It should be noted that this very sad and death-focused interview was pegged to the upcoming February 4 episode of the series, implying that EW knows something that we don’t. Last night NBC showed a preview of the upcoming post-Super Bowl episode, which doesn’t have a name as of yet. There’s lots of emotional statements and more flame imagery than anyone should be comfprtable with. The preview was packed with several emotionally-charged moments that you can watch above.
