As one of Netflix’s longest-running shows, Grace and Frankie has built up its own mythology, its own universe even! The Hanson and Bergstein families, as well as their assorted friends and romantic partners have been through plenty of ups and downs over the show’s four seasons. Fans are invested! Where will this adventure go next? And, most importantly, when will this adventure continue?
Before we get to that, though, let’s run through where we left comedy heroes Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) at the end of Season 4!
Did Season 4 end on a cliffhanger?
Oof, did it! After a season of mishaps (Grace’s increasingly busted knee, Frankie’s driving misadventure that almost took her to Mexico), the kids banded together to convince their respective mothers to move to an assisted living facility. Oh–and they did this while visiting Grace and Frankie in their beach house, which had been ransacked and left in disrepair by a “contractor” that Grace mistakenly trusted. Things… were not going well.
The stint at the assisted living place did not go so well, either. Both Grace and Frankie were under the illusion that they were there to keep an eye on the other one, thanks to some skillful manipulation from their kids. But when Grace learned she couldn’t operate her business out of their new place and Frankie had her art time micromanaged, the two of them decided to bust out–and bust out they did!
Unfortunately, Grace and Frankie don’t have a home to go back to. The season ends with the two of them returning to their beach house only to discover a “sold” sign out front. The season ends with the two of them holding hands, no place to go and no one to turn to but each other.
That can’t be the end of Grace and Frankie’s story! So will there be another season of Grace and Frankie?
When does season 5 of Grace and Frankie come out?
We don’t know yet. That’s the bad news. The good, or at least comforting, news is that Netflix has always taken its time to announce a new season of Grace and Frankie. They announced Season 2 just a few weeks after Season 1 debuted, but they waited until seven months after Season 2 was released to announce Season 3! So this silence from Netflix is definitely not unprecedented. We just gotta wait a little bit.
If Netflix gives the show another season, it’ll most likely debut in the first half of 2019. Grace and Frankie dropped new seasons in May, and then one in March, and now this one in January. You can’t get any earlier in the year than January, so it’s likely that Season 5 (if we get a Season 5) will arrive sometime between January and May 2019.

UPDATE (2/14/18): Netflix has announced that Grace and Frankie will return for Season 5 in 2019, with RuPaul on board as a guest star. We will update this article when Netflix announces a date for the show’s return.
