Natalee Holloway’s Mother Files $35 Million Lawsuit Against Oxygen Network Over Last Year’s TV Series About Her Daughter’s Disappearance

Beth Holloway, whose daughter Natalee went missing in Aruba in 2005 and was the subject of intense media attention as the mystery over what may have happened to her fascinated audiences, has filed a $35 million dollar lawsuit alleging that last year’s docu-series The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway misrepresented itself and duped her into providing DNA to be tested against remains found by producers in what she is alleging was a farce of a production.

As reported by the Washington Post, the legal complaint filed on February 2 aleged that the show, produced by Oxygen and Brian Graden Media, was “not a realtime or legitimate investigation into new leads” but rather a “pre-planned farce.” The lawsuit argues that “prior to filming their Series that they would not find Natalee because the Series was pre-conceived and was not a real-time investigation discovering new facts.”

Beth Holloway says that she was convinced by producers, and by her ex-husband Dave Holloway, to provide DNA evidence that would be tested against remains that had been discovered. Beth’s lawsuit alleges that the producers knew the DNA would not match before making this request.

The first episode of The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway premiered on Oxygen last August and pulled in 1.1 million viewers, which was reportedly the highest true-crime premiere in the network’s history.

UPDATE:

Below is the statement from an Oxygen Spokesperson:

“We were disappointed to learn of the complaint and its inaccurate depiction of how the series was produced, and we want to reiterate our deep compassion and sympathy for all members of the Holloway family. The documentary series was developed by a production company in close collaboration with Dave Holloway and his long-time private investigator. The show followed his continued search to find answers about his daughter Natalee from a lead he had received. We had hoped, along with Mr. Holloway, that the information was going to provide closure. We cannot comment further on ongoing litigation.”
