Mirai Nagasu Shines At Olympics 2018, Becomes First U.S. Woman To Land Triple Axel In Olympics

The indomitable Olympic spirit is alive and well in PyeongChang!

Competing in the free skating portion of the Figure Skating Team Event, Olympian Mirai Nagasu provided viewers with an unforgettable moment (and made a bit of history) as she became the first American woman to land a triple axel in Olympic competition. Made famous by Tonya Harding at the 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the high-risk/high-reward maneuver is one of the most difficult moves in figure skating.

In case you missed the moment because you were practicing your own triple axel (i.e., falling asleep on the couch covered in chips while binge-watching SVU episodes, not to worry: the moment, as you might imagine, was captured all over the internet, including in the tweet below. Welcome to history, Mirai!
