Netflix Gets Into The Scruffy Dog With A Heart Of Gold Business With First Full-Length ‘Benji’ Trailer

Netflix is reviving one of the most popular puppy franchises in cinematic history: Air Bud Benji!

A modern day retelling of the classic franchise, the film centers on the adorable friendship between two capricious New Orleans school kids and an orphaned puppy named, guessed it, Beethoven. Whoops, I mean Benji. When the two precocious kids end up kidnapped (obviously) by robbers who are in way over their heads (naturally), it’s Benji to the rescue!

The above trailer is all kinds of adorable, so this film could definitely introduce a new generation of kids to the Benji franchise. Before you watch the trailer, I’m going to answer a few of your questions:

Q: Does the trailer feature a scene where a filthy Benji splashes around in a bubble bath?

A: Yes

Q: Is there a moment in which Benji is hiding from a grown-up amongst a bunch of stuffed animals like he’s E.T.?

A: Yes

Q: Does Benji routinely outfox the police and also somehow end up riding a trolley?

A: Yes and yes

Starring Kiele Sanchez, Gabriel Bateman, and Darby Camp, the film is written and directed by Brandon Camp, whose father Joe Camp created the original Benji.

The film premieres March 16 on Netflix.
