Ellen DeGeneres Won a Cool $1000 Betting On The Sex Of Natalie Portman’s Baby

Celebrities: they’re just like us! If by “just like us,” you mean they make bets on the tiny minutiae of life in order to spice up these mundane lives we live and attempt to give these endless days some sense of urgency. They probably have a celebrity RuPaul’s Drag Race pool too! We bring this up today because Ellen DeGeneres just cashed in on a thousand-dollar bet she made with Natalie Portman when Portman was pregnant a little over a year ago. Portman was keeping mum on the gender of her baby, as expectant mums are sometimes wont to do, but Ellen wanted to show off her self-proclaimed talent for guessing the sex of unborn babies. The talent shows at Ellen’s elementary school must have been off the chain.

“I said it was a girl…” Ellen recapped.

“And you were correct,” Natalie confirmed. Her baby girl, Amalia, was born last February.

Portman said she knew at the time that the baby was a girl, but she didn’t want to reveal it publicly, so she accepted Ellen’s bet anyway, knowing she’d lose (honestly, name a more concrete example of integrity in our modern times). And she also made good on it, donating $1,000 to Ellen’s wildlife charity.

In related news, I once won $90 on an Ellen-branded slot machine at the Foxwoods casino in Connecticut. It was very loud.
