Shelter Pooches To Shine In Hallmark Channel’s ‘American Rescue Dog Show’

The Westminster Dog Show has been around for 142 years, celebrating canines of all kinds and providing puh-lenty of adorable doggie moments. The drawback is, though, mixed breed dogs are only allowed to compete in the agility competition, meaning that the champ every single year is a purebred pooch. Now, after almost a century and a half on the sidelines, it’s time for the spotlight to grow to include all dogs!

The Hallmark Channel is making that dog-owner’s dream come true on February 19 with the first ever American Rescue Dog Show. The event is open to any and all rescue and shelter dogs, which includes all breeds and all sorts of mixes. The event will be hosted by Rebecca Romijn and Rich Eisen and feature celebrity judges like Ross Mathews, Linda Blair, Rick Springfield, and Brandon McMillan.

Just like any inaugural competition, it will also feature all-new categories that are meme-ready–categories like Best in Wiggle Butt and Best in Snoring. The overall prize, Best in Rescue, will be given to one particular pup from a group of 10. The winners will be rewarded with $75,000 in non-profit grants provided by the Petco Foundation.

And if you’re wondering if the Hallmark Channel’s unofficial fave pup Happy will be there… of course he will be! He’s the official mascot! You can see him in the pic above with host Romijn.

The 2018 American Rescue Dog Show airs on February 19 at 8 PM ET on the Hallmark Channel.
