Here’s Every Way To Stream ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

The porgs are coming home to roost! That’s because we now know Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s release date, when it will be available digitally and to purchase on Blu-ray. After blasting off in theaters and making all the money in 2017 ($1.3 billion worldwide!), writer/director Rian Johnson’s episode in the Star Wars franchise will land in your living room, bringing Rey, Finn, Poe, Rose, and a whole cockpit full of porgs along with it. But as with all major movie releases, there are more ways to watch/rent/stream The Last Jedi than there are fish nuns on Ahch-To. Let’s run through the way!

When will Star Wars: The Last Jedi be released digitally?

You’ll be able to put your credits towards it and get it digitally in HD and 4k Ultra HD on March 13. That means if you buy your movies primarily through a VOD service like iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, or the like, you’ll be able to buy it at full price on March 13.

When will Star Wars: The Last Jedi be available to rent digitally?

Rental dates tend to be kept under wraps ahead of a movie’s release, and even then you have to hunt for them on those aforementioned services. Usually, movies tend to be available to rent at a fraction of the full price cost two weeks after they are released for sale. Going off that, it’s possible that The Last Jedi will be available to rent on iTunes and all those services on March 27.

When will Star Wars: The Last Jedi be released on Blu-ray?

The Last Jedi will be released on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on March 27 in a number of different formats, some including digital copies of the movies (so if you want to own The Last Jedi both physically and digitally, you might want to avoid dropping the dough on a lone digital copy on March 13 and get the combo release on March 27). If you are super into getting one of those Best Buy SteelBook editions, The Star Wars: The Last Jedi SteelBook release will also arrive on March 27.

If you’re looking for The Last Jedi on 3D Blu-ray, you might be out of luck–at least for now. Disney’s announcement didn’t include information about a 3D Blu-ray release, so you may need to keep your eyes peeled should one sneak its way onto shelves (seriously, Star Wars movies arrive in so many different versions at so many different stores).

What special features will be included on the Blu-ray?

Last Jedi’s Blu-ray release will include a feature-length documentary about the making of the film titled The Director and the Jedi told from Rian Johnson’s point of view, as well as a special feature called Balance of the Force which explores the film’s interpretation of the mystical power. You’ll also get a look at a few of Andy Serkis’ Snoke scenes pre-CG (please, please let him also be wearing a gold bathrobe!), and there will also be scene breakdowns, 14 deleted scenes, audio commentary and more. Note that some digital releases come with special features too, so there’s a good chance you won’t have to buy a Blu-ray in order to see some (or most, or all) of these treats.

When will Star Wars: The Last Jedi be available on Netflix?

There’s a lot of hubbub about Disney’s upcoming streaming service and how their current deal with Netflix will be affected. Right now, all of Disney’s movies end up available to stream on Netflix around six or seven months after they’re released on home video. For example, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrived on Netflix on July 18 of 2017 after opening in theaters in mid-December of 2016. So, following that logic, The Last Jedi should be available to stream on Netflix this July. And as far as we know, the whole Disney streaming service thing shouldn’t affect Last Jedi as it is set to launch in 2019.
