Stream It Or Skip It: 'The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live' On AMC, Where Rick And Michonne Try To Find Their Way Back To Each Other
The Walking Dead has never really had an issue with saying goodbye to some of its most central characters in some pretty gruesome ways, but this time, it looks like they might lose a leading lady due to a pay dispute. About two weeks ago, negotiations with actress Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Rhee on the show, hit a snag.
Having starred on the show since the second season, Cohan asked for a raise to put her on the same playing field as male leads Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, but AMC did not acquiesce to her demands. Instead, they countered with a raise that didn’t quite cut it for Cohen, and the actress rejected it, even making herself available for pilot season and fielding offers from other networks. Negotiations picked back up with AMC, however, and it looked like they might meet some kind of a deal for the upcoming Season 9 and beyond, but nothing’s changed.
A statement from showrunner Scott Gimple, while optimistic, did not inspire confidence about Cohan’s return, either:
“I’m incredibly hopeful. These things do happen in TV. But we’re talking. And Lauren is an actor who has such intuition and such power. So yeah, hopefully, it all works out.”
With so many lead characters now out of the mix, Cohan’s loss would certainly be felt on The Walking Dead. Let’s just hope that if she does go, she doesn’t meet as grisly an end as her co-stars.
