Oprah Reacts To Trump Calling Her “Insecure”: “I Just Thought, What?”

Oprah Winfrey is a lot of things: successful, a role model, beloved by millions. If there’s one thing that Oprah — the woman who is the face of O Magazine, a publication that has a new cover photo of Oprah’s face every month — probably isn’t it’s insecure. Don’t tell that to Donald Trump.

During a recent 60 Minutes episode devoted to criticizing Trump’s presidency, Oprah moderated a panel for a diverse group of voters from Grand Rapids, Michigan. All of these pro-Trump and anti-Trump voters had appeared on a news show in 2017, and the goal of the 60 Minutes segment was to see how they felt about President Trump now. After the episode premiered, Trump tweeted about how Oprah was “very insecure” and that the questions that were asked were “biased and slanted.”

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah addressed Trump’s tweet. Long story short, she’s just as confused as we are.

“I woke up and I just thought,” she said, raising her hands in the air and shrugging. “I don’t like giving negativity power, so I just thought, ‘What?’”

The super-celebrity admitted that the tweet made her go back and re-examine her 60 Minutes interview. “I went back and looked at every tape, I called the producers,” she said. “Because what actually happened was when you do 60 Minutes, you sit in a room with at least seven other people who critique the piece before you air it, before you do the introduction to it, and then they give you the critique. So, they critique every word and is this fair – you have this whole panel of people looking at whether it was fair.”

Oprah also revealed that she actually pushed that the episode appear more balanced in editing. Before, only the answers the Democratic voters gave to the question “Do you think, do you care about what other people think about America?” were aired. Oprah claims she pushed for the episode to use some of the Republican answers as well.

“I was working very hard to do the opposite of what I was hate-tweeted about so, it’s OK,” she concluded.
