With a bunch of Grammy attention and a scorching hot soundtrack to the blockbuster movie Black Panther, Kendrick Lamar is having a helluva 2018. And that follows a helluva 2017 (and so on and so forth–the guy’s arguably the most important name in hip-hop!). But even with all those awards and accolades, Kendrick Lamar apparently hasn’t broken into one very specific demographic: the Jeopardy! contestant crowd.

That became painfully apparent in this clip posted to Instagram, wherein a question from the “Recent R&B & Hip-Hop Hits” category was met with crickets from contestants Rob, Catherine, and Alan. I mean, just look at the question:

“Hitmaking was in his ‘DNA.’ He had ‘Loyalty.’ He was ‘Humble.’ & in ‘Love.’ — ‘Damn.'”

That’s three song titles in a row, followed up with the album title Damn tossed on at the end, just for kicks! This is the equivalent of if a Wheel of Fortune board had the letters “KENDRI_K L_M_R.” And even with all those clues, the contestants were stumped.

If anything, this clip gave us a soundbite of Alex Trebek saying “Kendrick Lamar” with a bit of pep. So, that’s something! And one can only hope that Rob, Alan, and Catherine all hit “purchase” on Damn on their smart phones after the taping.
