Megan Boone Vows Her Character Will “Never Carry An Assault Rifle Again” On ‘The Blacklist’

On NBC’s The Blacklist, Elizabeth Keen is an FBI profiler who teams with a former most-wanted fugitive to track down terrorists and criminals. In real life, the actress who plays  her was moved by the events of Valentine’s Day at a South Florida high school and has made a personal proclamation.

Megan Boone, who has played Keen since the series launched in 2013, tweeted today that the character is done with assault rifles in the wake of the shooting in which a gunman armed with an AR-15 killed 17 innocent people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland:

As an FBI profiler, her character rarely carries guns. In most cases when she does, it has been a handgun, but she has used an assault rifle at least once on The Blacklist. Deadline hears that, having grown up in Florida, Boone was deeply affected by the school shooting and that she made today’s pledge on her own.

Her tweet, of course, comes as a wave of pro-gun-control activism is making headlines around the country in the wake of the horrors in Florida. CNN held a much talked-about — and high-rated — town hall on the subject this week, and President Donald Trump today spoke to the GOP’s CPAC confab about the need to arm teachers against possible future assaults.
