Spoilers for the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead “Honor” past this point!
Most of the talk around this week’s episode of The Walking Dead was focused on the death of Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs). But lucky for you undead perverts out there, the series’ after-show Talking Dead still found some time to drop new details about Season 8’s other highly anticipated/dreaded event: a naked zombie.
We first found out that a starkers walker would be showing up back on February 15, revealed by executive producer, often director, and legendary effects guru Greg Nicotero. Details were scarcer than the clothing that would be covering said flesh-eater, but host Chris Hardwick managed to make some time between mourning the death of one of the original characters on the show to ask Riggs’ couch-mate Nicotero about the upcoming event.
Turns out, it’s a stealthy (or not so stealthy, because you’re definitely going to see a naked zombie coming from a mile away) tribute to one of Nicotero’s favorite movies, as well as Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s inspiration for the franchise, Night of the Living Dead.
In case you’re wondering what that means? George Romero’s classic horror flick famously featured exactly one nude zombie. The director decided that at least one of the zombies would have woken up in a morgue nude before wandering to join the horde. So if you look close enough, in between all the mangling and terror, you might be able to spy a few naughty bits.
Not so on Walking Dead. As Nicotero revealed, the naked zombie wont be NC-17 naked, they’ll be basic cable naked. And in fact, you won’t even be able to tell exactly what parts of them are naked.
“Clearly you can’t tell if it’s a male or female,” Nicotero said, “because there’s some bite marks, strategically placed.”
That’s probably a huge bummer for the portion of the population who is confusingly attracted to the undead, but for those of you who watch Walking Dead for the violence, not the romance, there’s still some good news.
“This person died very painfully,” Nicotero added.
There you go! The gender non-specific, sort-of nude zombie will show up later on this season, so keep your eyes peeled, because someone clearly peeled the rest of that zombie.
